This is a great use of social networking sites however these sites are banned in many schools (including Scarborough schools) and a reversal of "School Policy" from banning use of to encouraging use of these sites is unlikely.
There exists much histeria among the dinosaurs of education about "unregulated use" and "system security" and warning about "legal action". People my age and older are having a hard time grasping how young people are using these and many other technologies and why. Administrators are just focusing on how to limit and control when they should seek to use existing rules, not panic and just watch human social behavior at hyper speed. There are many great uses for technology but those that don't understand need to move aside.
